Hyatt, one of the world’s leading hospitality companies, annually recognizes top hotel owners, operators and developers with awards in categories such as strategic partner, developer of the year, best renovation and best new hotel. This year, McWhinney is the receipient of 2021 Strategic Partner Award that celebrates a company’s culture, performance and operating philosophies, along with its strong, multi-brand relationship with Hyatt. McWhinney was part of a select group of award recipients at the October 2021 Hyatt Americas Owners Conference in Huntington Beach, Calif.
“This award is a major endorsement from Hyatt and we are very proud to be recognized by one of the leading hotel brands in global hospitality,” said Dave Johnstone, chief investment officer, Hospitality at McWhinney. “We truly value our relationship with Hyatt and look forward to a successful ongoing partnership.”
Last year, McWhinney opened the 297-room Hyatt Place Boston/Seaport District in Boston’s Harbor waterfront. This new hotel features the Hyatt Place brand’s intuitive design, casual atmosphere and practical amenities, including free Wi-Fi and 24-hour food offerings, in addition to a curated art collection and a 12th-floor guest lounge and patio offering picturesque Boston Harbor views. McWhinney recently topped out on the 31st floor of the 246-key Hyatt Centric Austin hotel in downtown Austin. The Texas hotel is anticipated to open in early 2022.
“As we continue to pursue thoughtful growth, we are focused on working alongside owners and developers to identify new markets and hotel offerings that resonate most for our guests and members,” said Jim Tierney, Hyatt’s senior vice president of development and owner relations. “Over the years, our relationship with McWhinney has grown significantly and we are thrilled to recognize their team’s contributions with this year’s Strategic Partner Award.”
McWhinney has a strong 30-year history of successfully investing across all real estate mixed-use asset classes including hospitality, multifamily, industrial and office in projects located in Colorado, Texas, Massachusetts, Oregon, California, Utah and Nebraska.
