Joint venture partners Golub & Company and Formativ are inviting Denver to celebrate the opening of more than four acres of new public parks and open space at Denargo Market with a free community block party on Thursday, Sept. 4, from 4–8 p.m. The evening celebration will feature live music by Rootbeer Richie & The Reveille, Velvet Daydream, and Something Vinyl Club (DJ set), a market of local artists and makers, food trucks, and pop-up bars curated by Drink Denver. All bar proceeds will benefit Denver Urban Gardens, which will soon debut a new community garden at Denargo Market for nearby residents to enjoy.
Located along the South Platte River just north of downtown Denver, the new public realm transforms this formerly vacant area into a people-first destination designed for gathering, play and year-round activation. The milestone marks the first time the public can explore the fully completed parks, plazas, play areas, and riverfront spaces, anchored by Rhingo, a 30-foot-tall climbable steel rhino sculpture named by the community earlier this summer. Pedestrians and bicyclists will have the opportunity to meander along newly built sidewalks and protected bike lens connecting the neighborhood seamlessly with downtown Denver.
“Delivering this public realm first reflects our commitment to creating spaces that connect people to the riverfront and to each other, in a pocket of the city that has historically lacked open and green space,” said Laura Newman, vice president of investment & development at Golub & Company. “We’re thrilled to open these parks and plazas for everyone to enjoy and can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by filling them with music, food and community.”
Highlights of the block party include the official opening and invitation to climb Rhingo, Denargo Market’s new interactive art installation co-designed by Sasaki and fabricated by Denver-based JunoWorks and Eldorado Walls, as well as the debut of amenities such as a nature-based playground, fire pit, pop-jet fountain, half-acre green lawn, and more.
Guests can enjoy food and beverages for purchase, with options from Bandwagon Sandwich Co., HipPOPs Handcrafted Gelato Bars, Ninja Ramen Mobile, Shuck Brothers, and Uptown & Humboldt, while shopping local goods from vendors such as Ariana Barnstable’s “Lazy Cowgirl Series”, B Fresh Gear, Baby Jess Art, Big Ass Maps, Caddy Flip Games, Chained Up Permanent Jewelry, Evey K Fashionliner, MisoHeat, Native Raw Eats, Paddywax Candle Bar, Pardon My French & Co, Rancher Hat Bar, Send Flours Baking Co., and That Witch.
“This is exactly the kind of moment we envisioned when we set out to build Denargo Market’s public realm,” said Sean Campbell, CEO of Formativ. “The block party is a celebration of Denver’s creativity, energy and community spirit, and the first of many experiences people can expect at Denargo Market. This is only the beginning.”
Spanning 17 acres along the South Platte River in the RiNo Art District, Denargo Market’s redevelopment is poised to deliver over 3 million square feet of mixed-use space, including residential, office, retail, and hospitality, all connected by world-class public amenities.
