ACEC National Awards Colorado Engineer for Community Service

Denver, CO – The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Colorado Past President Lauren Evans, PE, founder and president of Pinyon Environmental Inc. (Lakewood) was honored with a 2016 Community Service Award from ACEC National for outstanding contributions to the quality of life in her community during its National Fall Conference held October 19 – 22 in Colorado Springs.

Evans has been active with ACEC Colorado for 23 years and has held many leadership positions, including president, national director and chair of the Environmental and Engineering Committees; she also recently completed her term on the ACEC National Executive Committee. Additionally, Evans is chair of the Colorado Water Quality Commission and serves on the board of Socially Conscious Coffee, a nonprofit organization that supports coffee-producing communities with limited access to schools, healthcare, adequate nutrition and clean water in Brazil and Ethiopia. She is also actively engaged in helping abused and neglected children in the legal system.

Evans has fostered a company culture that promotes engaging with and serving others. Each summer clients and friends of the firm are invited to attend a Summer Dinner Series, where a gourmet meal is served and guests learn firsthand about the noble work of a nonprofit organization and its needs. Some of the many charitable organizations that have been featured at the these dinners include the Denver Animal Shelter, Denver Zoo, Shiloh Acres Horse Rescue, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, Water for People, Greenhouse Scholars, Engineers Without Borders, Socially Conscious Coffee and The Action Center.

“We are very pleased that Lauren was recognized with this national award. Lauren’s dedication in everything she does inspires us as business-people and engineering professionals, but even more as people. Lauren’s community-driven spirit makes the world better for all,” said Elizabeth Stolfus, PE, ACEC Colorado 2016-17 president.

Ben Chen, PE; Robert Pence, PE; and Charles Phillips, Jr., PE were also recognized with an ACEC national Community Service Award for impacting quality of life in their respective communities.
