AGC of Colorado Commends Members’ Commitments to Workplace Safety & Environmental Excellence

The Associated General Contractors of Colorado (AGC/C) commended its members’ commitments to workplace safety and environmental excellence at the 33rd annual Safety & Environmental Awards during an AGC/C Board of Directors Virtual Networking Breakfast, held on May 27. At a time when everyone’s safety is paramount, this virtual event attracted over 160 construction industry professionals to honor winners in three different categories of awards that were commemorated in a video shown to participants online at the event.

“Although safety has always served as an integral part of construction projects, we are reminded now more than ever the significance of ensuring that all of our construction team members go home safely each day to their families,” commented Bradley J. Gassman, safety and environmental director at AGC of Colorado. “We are honored to recognize so many construction firms who are consistently exceeding safety and environmental expectations on their jobsites.”

AGC of Colorado’s Safety and Environmental Director, Bradley J. Gassman, displays the plaques for the CSEP and CHASE award winners that will be distributed to the winners at a later date.

The following safety awards were presented to Colorado construction firms at the Associated General Contractors of America National Convention which took place March 9 – 12, 2020. These Willis Tower Watson Construction Safety Excellence Award (CSEA) Winners were divided into Building Contractor and Specialty Contractor divisions based on number of work hours.

Third place winner recognized at the National Convention included:

  • HEI Civil – Specialty Division for 650,000 to 1.2 million work hours

Second place winners included:

First place winners from Colorado earning CSEA awards included:

  • Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc. – Specialty Division: 2 million – 7 million work hours
  • Encore Electric, Inc. – Specialty Division: 1.2 million – 2 million work hours

The Construction Health and Safety Excellence (CHASE) awards recognized firms at the Red, White and Blue levels based on the culture derived from their safety and health programs, maturity of training plans, employee engagement and continuous improvement techniques.

The Red level firm for this year is:

The next set of awards includes the Colorado Stormwater Excellence Program (CSEP), which is the first regulatory agency-recognized, self-policing stormwater compliance management program in the nation. CSEP ranks companies as either Participating or Qualified, based on performance data.

The Participating level firm is:

The third category included the National AGC Safety Awards (NASA) program, where AGC/C members can evaluate their safety record as compared to other national AGC members.

The AGC/C members recognized for achieving 25% below division lost workday case rate in 2019 included:

  • Haselden Construction
  • Hensel Phelps Construction Co.
  • Saunders Construction, Inc.
  • The Beck Group

The following AGC/C firms were recognized for achieving zero lost workday case rate in 2019:
