Haselden Construction in partnership with East West Partners and 4240 Architecture recently installed one of the last structural panels on the Aura Residences at Snowmass, one of the first cross-laminated timber structures in the Rocky Mountain region. Designed with sustainability in mind, Aura will be powered by 100% renewable energy, utilize an efficient shell to regulate temperature, and feature triple pane windows among other sustainable choices.
“Cross-laminated timber is where the industry is trending as we look to more sustainable methods of construction to protect our environment,” said Brian Hunt, Haselden senior project manager. “We are thrilled to be a pioneer in this method for the Rocky Mountains, especially as it will help protect where our teams live and work for the future as many of our construction team and subcontractors are local to the Roaring Fork Valley.”
Cross-laminated timber panels and columns take the place of steel in the design but have many more benefits than just stability. According to Nordic, a leading CLT company, building with wood generates 26% to 31% less greenhouse gas than building with concrete or steel and functions as a “carbon sink” continuing to store carbon dioxide after it is harvested. Pairing this with the benefits of biophilic design through the exposed wood makes it a natural choice for the future of mountain living.
The Aura marks the third building in a longstanding partnership between Haselden Construction, East West Partners, and 4240 Architecture in Snowmass Village. Haselden Construction has developed a strong presence across the Western Slope building relationships with local subcontractors including Encore Electric, Falcon Plumbing and Heating, and Johnson Construction. The structural topping out celebrated all the hard work these teams have put in over the past months as workers from each team were invited to sign the wood panel rather than the traditional steel beam.
The Aura is set to be complete in late summer of 2024 and will add 21 new residences to Snowmass Base Village. Each residence focuses on wellness with blended indoor/outdoor living and access to all base village amenities. Haselden Construction is also constructing the Cirque Residences at Viceroy in Snowmass Base Village.
