Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) announced that 13 developments have been awarded a reservation of federal 9 percent Housing Tax Credits along with an award of federal 4 percent credit to a paired development. In total, these developments will support 703 affordable rental housing units to serve various housing needs in Colorado including helping individuals and families who are transitioning out of homelessness, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), older adults, and households with low and moderate incomes. The total private sector equity investment estimated to be generated from the federal tax credits awarded exceeds $158.9 million.
Since the program was created in 1986, CHFA has served as the allocating agency for Housing Tax Credits in Colorado. Tax credits are the most widely used tool for financing affordable rental housing in the nation. Since its inception, the program has helped build or preserve more than 83,000 affordable rental housing units in Colorado.
