Haselden Construction and Vail Health are proud to announce the official ribbon cutting of the Vail Precourt Healing Center, a transformative behavioral health facility located in Edwards. The celebration took place on May 16, during which local leaders, health professionals, and project stakeholders acknowledged the significant impact of this long-awaited resource.
“We are the only psychiatric facility between Salt Lake City and Denver,” shared Chris Lindley, executive director of Vail Health. “That fact alone speaks to the critical need for expanded behavioral health services in our region. The Vail Precourt Healing Center is a vital step toward ensuring that individuals and families across Western Colorado have access to the care and support they deserve.”
The 50,000-square-foot facility, built by Haselden Construction and designed by Davis Partnership Architects, is the first of its kind in the Vail Valley. It offers 28 beds—14 for adults and 14 for adolescents aged 12 and older—along with bilingual services, age-specific floors, supervised outdoor spaces and a calming design that prioritizes dignity and recovery. The center has already begun admitting patients and serves as a critical regional hub for behavioral health, with hospitals as far as Jackson Hole, Wyo., seeking admittance privileges.
“This project is deeply meaningful for our team at Haselden,” said Byron Haselden, CEO and president of Haselden Construction. “Not only does it expand care in a historically underserved area, but it also brings visibility to mental health in the construction industry, which faces some of the highest rates of mental illness. We’re honored to help create a space that promotes healing for this community and beyond.”
The Precourt Healing Center addresses what is often referred to as the “paradise paradox”— the reality that mountain towns, while picturesque, experience disproportionately high rates of depression, anxiety and suicide. For years, residents in Eagle County and surrounding areas had few options for inpatient behavioral care, often traveling for hours to Denver or Grand Junction for treatment.
Haselden overcame significant construction challenges to bring the project to life following its groundbreaking in September 2022, including record snowfall, permitting delays, and foundational errors that required swift, expert resolution. Through close collaboration with Vail Health and the design team, the project remained on schedule and achieved the highest safety and quality standards.
The center’s thoughtful design features oversized windows for natural light and mountain views, exercise and recreation spaces, and cutting-edge safety technologies like infrared monitoring. These elements combine to create a setting that supports physical, emotional and psychological recovery.
As the need for behavioral health care grows across the country, the Vail Precourt Healing Center sets a new standard for how communities can respond—with infrastructure that reflects both compassion and innovation.
