The General Services Administration (GSA) recently hosted a ribbon cutting for Building 53 at the Denver Federal Center Campus celebrating the successful completion of the project.

JE Dunn Construction completed the complex renovation and repurposing of nearly 200,000 square feet to revitalize a largely vacant building into modern office space. This effort showcases GSA’s leadership in decarbonizing the federal footprint and making federal buildings more energy efficient while saving taxpayer dollars, creating clean energy jobs, and strengthening American competitiveness.

The design-build effort, a collaboration with Gensler, included a complete reroofing, abatement, a full interior renovation, extensive upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire systems, and the buildout of tenant spaces.

“At JE Dunn, we exist to enrich lives through inspired people and places and our team is proud to successfully complete the Building 53 modernization in partnership with Gensler and the GSA team.” Joel Pennick, vice president, JE Dunn

The completed space brings five federal agencies, including two DOI bureaus, with nearly 1,000 employees to the campus, eliminating seven private market leases and saving taxpayers nearly $12 million annually.

“The project team’s exceptional leadership was pivotal in the success of the Building 53 project. Despite facing significant challenges, including a shift in delivery method, additional abatement needs, and COVID complications, the project was completed just six months after the originally planned date. This remarkable achievement was made possible through unwavering teamwork, clear communication, and robust project management. The JE Dunn team’s dedication to the government ensured the project stayed on track and within budget, setting a new standard for excellence in project execution.” Tammy Quinn, senior project manager, GSA
