The Leadville Visitor Center is excited to announce its forthcoming relocation from 809 Harrison Avenue to the iconic Old American National Bank Building at 460 Harrison Avenue. This move signifies a significant partnership between the Lake County Tourism Panel and Climax Molybdenum, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, aimed at enhancing the visitor experience in Leadville.
The historic Old American National Bank Building on Harrison Avenue offers an ideal location for the Leadville Visitor Center. Its central placement within the heart of Leadville ensures accessibility and visibility for tourists and locals alike. The three-story brick and sandstone building built in the Romanesque style is 25 feet wide and 110 feet deep with a 17-foot tower of red sandstone. The corner tower is topped with a bell-shaped metal-painted dome. The building’s first occupant in 1892 was the American National Bank.
Renovations for the new Visitor Center are underway. The aim is to create a welcoming and informative space reflective of Leadville’s rich history and vibrant culture. The move-in date is expected to be early August. Downstream Construction LTD is the general contractor for the renovation.
“We feel honored by the opportunity to relocate the Leadville Visitor Center to such a historic and prominent location,” said Lake County Tourism Director Adam Ducharme. “This move represents a significant step forward in our efforts to provide exceptional visitor services and promote the unique offerings of Leadville and Lake County.”
The Leadville Visitor Center looks forward to welcoming visitors to its new home at the Old American National Bank Building and continuing to serve as a valuable resource for those exploring the beauty and heritage of Leadville and its surrounding areas.
