On a warm afternoon in May, students and alumni, district and school staff, community members, and the Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP) team gathered for a milestone celebration and groundbreaking for the Palmer High School transformation. The planned renovation by Colorado Springs District 11 will revitalize Palmer High School, originally established in 1875 and currently serving 1,344 students.
“We’re honored that D11 chose us to complete this important project for our community. We are using our past success and lessons learned from our extensive high school and renovation experience to plan every aspect of the construction. Upon completion, this is a project that our company will be proud of for years to come – it has so many challenges and opportunities for all of us,” said Tony Cingoranelli, vice president of preconstruction for AP.
“Today is about investment. Today is about believing in the power of public education to shape the future of our city,” said Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade.
Other speakers at the event included Colorado Springs School District 11 Executive Director of Engagement Dr. Jessica Wise and Superintendent Michael Gaal; Judy Owsley, president of the Palmer High School Alumni Association; and Palmer High School Principal Krista Burke.
Located at Nevada Avenue and Boulder Street in Colorado Springs, Phase 1 includes renovating the core building, demolishing the technology wing, and replacing it with a new three-story academic wing. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2028.
William J. Palmer High School is the flagship high school of the Colorado Springs School District 11. Located in downtown Colorado Springs, it serves a richly diverse student body and proudly offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme.
