Denver, CO – Zeppelin Development has been honored with the CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Step-Up Award. The company’s principals, Mickey and Kyle Zeppelin, received the award for their work at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver on Wednesday, July 27.
CREW’s Step-Up Award honors commercial real estate leaders who have stepped up to create community through real estate. The Zeppelins have championed this mission for more than four decades by continuously addressing trends, then designing and programming their buildings to meet the specific needs of the diverse – and often underserved – community.
“We appreciate the great progress that women have made in the real estate world since my beginning 40 years ago, with organizations like CREW at the forefront” said Mickey Zeppelin. “The fact that they are giving us this award for community service and innovation – not just for the most profitable or tallest building – is really gratifying.”
The Zeppelins’ community-centric approach is exemplified with TAXI, a mixed-use project that began as a singular, new kind of office building in an underdeveloped, industrial neighborhood of Denver more than 15 years ago. As true pioneers in the neighborhood, RiNo (River North Art District), which has recently begun to flourish, the Zeppelins’ site evolved into a catalytic model of work-live development. Now at eight buildings, TAXI features 100 residential units and amenities including an early childhood education center, dog park, community garden, swimming pool, fitness center, creative recreation room, and more.
Kyle Zeppelin said, “With our most recent addition to TAXI, Freight Residences – a first-of-its-kind family-friendly urban housing project – and subsequent near-immediate lease-up, it’s evident that we’re on the right track addressing the needs of our community. We’ve recently acquired five-and-a-half more acres to grow the TAXI site, which will include an affordable housing component and expanded amenities, continuing our efforts to cater towards Denver’s growing population of urban families.”
Zeppelin Development has several mixed-use projects currently underway in the RiNo neighborhood, including Zeppelin Station, a 100,000-square-foot retail and creative office development at the new airport-bound 38th and Blake commuter rail station, set to open in 2017. As the Zeppelins’ namesake project, community is at its core, with the goal of providing a fully functional train station at what would otherwise be just a transportation platform, while continuing to support the needs of the next generation of businesses.
